How To: Self Care During Wedding Preparations

How To: Self Care During Wedding Preparations

Ladies, we know how stressful it can get to plan your wedding. Between booking venues, shopping for wedding dresses and make-up trials, it can feel like the "to-do" list is never-ending.

But as busy as it gets, remember to take care of yourself! It’s important that you feel great from the inside out so that you can truly be present and enjoy your entire wedding experience.

We’ve put together 10 simple, yet fun, self-care tips to help you stay calm, centred and relaxed while your handle things like the #girlboss that you are. You got this brides!

1. Ditch Coffee, Start Herbal Teas

Okay, we get it. There is nothing that gives the kick to a day quite like coffee does. But when it comes to self-care, tea will heal and energize you from within like no other.

Just like a lavender candle or a eucalyptus oil rich bubble bath that calm your nerves, a few sips from a good herbal tea also brings you balance and comfort.

Choose the flavour you like and find your zen amidst all those wedding errands.

2. Commit to a Sound Sleep Routine

A good nap is your best friend, and if you want to indulge in a little shut-eye mid-day, then we support you!

Instead of stressing about the nitty-gritty of wedding planning, keep your phone aside and enjoy your beauty sleep. Whether it’s a full 8-hour sleep at nighttime, or a 30-minute power nap, you’ll be glad that you did.

Not only will you feel refreshed and productive, but let’s not forget the benefits of healthy skin and weight loss!

3. Love Your Nails… a Little More

Never delay or cancel your spa sessions for any other plans.

A relaxing manicure and pedicure time with your to-be-bridesmaids or your Mom and Sister will take your mind off those flower arrangements or guest favours. After all, some quality girl time is often exactly what the doctor ordered.

This is probably the best time to splurge on that exquisite skin care package you wanted as well. You deserve it.

4. Say “Yes!” to All Those Movie Dates

As we move closer to our wedding day occasions, we often forget about spending time with our future spouse away from all the commotion of planning.

But the truth is, nothing beats stress like catching a romantic flick with the man you love. A fun date-night will put everything into perspective and remind you that at the end of your wedding-planning rainbow is a beautiful marriage with the love of your life.

And hey, if there aren’t any good movies in the theatres… Don’t worry, there’s always one on Netflix. 😉

5. Sweat It Out

Sometimes, last minute nuances pop up.

You know, like; last minute extensions to the guest list, relatives with their uncanny demands, a budget you’ve just exceeded, and the list goes on..

Instead of dealing with it right away, it’s probably best if you walk away from it (for now), and into a gym. A good sweat-sesh will decrease your worries and increase your serotonin (the happy chemical!). Oh- and let’s not forget that it’ll also make you a little less guilty-feeling when you have that gulab jamun later.

6. Eat Healthy, but Don’t Watch Your Weight

Skip the pressure to size down for a dress. Your wedding is meant to be the happiest day of your life, so love yourself completely, whether or not that includes a fitness goal.

Regardless, make sure you are fuelling your body with whole, nutritious foods.

You’ll feel nourished on a good whole diet, plus it’s the best way to get to your weight goals (if you even want to set one!).

7. Plan A Weekend Getaway

It might seem far fetched to plan a trip just a few weeks before your wedding, but you’ll thank us later.

Before things begin to get too crazy, you and your fiancé should try spending a night or two on a relaxing vacation. You can choose whether that mini-getaway is local or if you’re hopping on a plane.

Whatever you choose, it’ll let some stress off you both and you’ll be in sync during the ceremonies.

8. Don’t Leave Your Hobbies Behind

Do you enjoy baking chocolate cakes? Or is it Salsa that lifts you up? You can’t let anything come between you and your interests.

If you haven’t had one, now might be a great time to kick-start a new hobby like cooking, guitar, bike riding or any other sport that you’ve enjoyed doing during your childhood.

These activities will keep the balance when all those catering and event performance pressures are starting to rise.

9. Take Time Out with Your Parents

Mothers are the best therapists in the world-hands down!

Between all the wedding planning and trousseau preparations, do not forget to spend some emotional moments with your parents and loved ones at home.

You will recall these memories and smile thinking about them forever.

10. Live the Dream

It’s the last few days before married life… how can you afford to let them slip away in the rush of wedding shopping?

Take a deep breath, enjoy the process, and remember these are the best days of your life!!

And always remember ladies, “it’s not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself and to make your happiness a priority, it’s necessary.”
